7 golden moments from The Big Bang Theory
Penny’s lost his way
A feral look, peasant, swearing, with empty snack boxes around her. In season 2, the always finely groomed Penny becomes briefly obsessed with the online game The age of Conan. When Leonard takes a worried look, he points out a stray Cheetos in her hair. “Oh, thank you,” says Penny, plucks the salt out of her lure, eats it, and plunges back into the game. One of the best acting performances of actress Kaley Cuoco, who became one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood thanks to The big bang.
The first kiss
Sheldon’s not very handy in love. The equally contact-disturbed Amy seems cut out for him. But secretly, she’s yearning for a richer emotional life. In season 7 she organizes a romantic trip on a historic train. Unfortunately, train fanatic Sheldon is less interested in the chic menu in the restaurant car than in the ingenious way in which the train compartments are linked together. Amy had imagined more of Valentine’s Day. The couple ends up bickering among the dining guests. “If you want romance, you get romance,” Sheldon screams. The argument culminates in a first kiss that’s as awkward as it is overwhelming. You know, Amy is played by Mayim Bialik, who, like her character, has a PhD in neuroscience.
Howard is attached to a robot arm
Howard is experimenting with a robotic arm in season 4. This soon gets painfully out of hand. “So you tripped and fell on a robot hand,” asks Raj, who finds his friend with a blanket over his crotch. How are they going to solve this? “Don’t touch the buttons,” Howard shouts. Raj, Leonard and Howard go to the emergency room. And yes, of course, the nurse echoes right through the intercom: “I need a wheelchair, I’ve got a robot here holding a penis.”
The dirty napkin and the countermove
Season 2 is known as the best series. One of the funniest episodes is the one in which Sheldon stores a mountain of well filled gift baskets for Christmas. This allows him to match any gift from the painfully attentive Penny with an equivalent gift. But then Penny gives him a used and signed napkin from his hero Leonard Nimoy (Spock from Star Trek). Sheldon is so taken by surprise that he not only gives her all the baskets, but also a hug that is as clumsy as it is sincere. Sheldon showing affection! An iconic moment.
Love scene in the hallway
Well, Penny and Leonard and their chronic flashing light relationship. When they bump into each other in the hallway, in season 6, Penny Leonard accidentally declares love. It’s one of the sweetest scenes ever. Kaley Cuoco told in an interview that it seemed as if the world around her was disappearing. Not so strange, Cuoco and Johnny Galecki (Leonard), really had a relationship for two years without anyone knowing.
The elevator mystery
The yellow ribboned elevator in the Big bang apartment. Why is that thing broken anyway? The third season unravels the mystery. The elevator broke down during an explosive experiment. This episode also introduces the roommate contract between Leonard and Sheldon. With bizarre clauses like: Leonard will help Sheldon get rid of someone who’s been taken over by extraterrestrial life. And: Once a day Sheldon has to ask Leonard how he is doing. The big question is of course: was the elevator in that very last episode finally faxed?
Distracted by super-asymmetry
Uh huh, season 11 is finally here: Sheldon and Amy are getting married. Star Wars icon Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) performs the wedding. Yet Amy and Sheldon are late for their own party. Logical, because while Sheldon tries to straighten his bow tie he has a eureka moment. Together with his soon-to-be – in a huge cake in a wedding dress – he plunges into this miraculous discovery of super-asymmetry. While the guests wait, they slat on the mirror with lipstick formulas. As Leonard rises to pole height, he too is dragged into the science ecstasy. How nerdy do you want it?
