“The Big Bang Theory”: This is why fans find Penny’s development illogical
In 2019 the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” ended after twelve years. In retrospect, however, the fans discovered an illogicality: it refers to Penny’s circle of friends.
* “The Big Bang Theory” is one of the most successful sitcoms with twelve seasons.
* The series ended in 2019 after actor Jim Parsonsseinen refused to renew his contract.
* In retrospect, fans realized one thing that was never solved.
“The Big Bang Theory” took the hearts of German fans by storm – and that despite tough sitcom competition from series like “How I Met Your Mother” or “Two and a Half Man”. The CBS production stands out in particular thanks to its diverse characters, who with their very individual characteristics, tics and problems cause a lot of laughter.
In 2019, however, “The Big Bang Theory” came to an end, as the makers did not want to shoot any more seasons without actor Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper). If you still haven’t had enough, you can watch reruns of the series on TV, for example. By the way, some fans recommend to concentrate very carefully on Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco) story during the binge-watching, because it’s not supposed to be very logical.
“The Big Bang Theory”: Therefore many viewers find Penny’s development strange
Over the course of twelve seasons the characters from “The Big Bang Theory” all developed positively. This also applies to Penny*. She went from being a disinterested party girl to a good friend of the nerds. There’s one thing that bothers many fans about this change, though: In the very first seasons, Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon’s neighbor had several friends with whom she regularly went out on dates. After a while, Penny’s circle of friends was no longer an issue.
The magazine Expresszit quotes a Reddit user who doesn’t understand this change: “In the end, I guess the focus of the series is not on Penny. Nevertheless, this has been bothering me for quite a while now. Women like Penny have friends. This gross omission is making Penny more and more untrustworthy.” The user further argues that Penny’s later boyfriend and husband Leonard was also not introduced to any of her friends, which is also unrealistic.

“The Big Bang Theory” fans with explanation of “illogicality”
However, other users suggest a possible explanation: As Penny gets along better with Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) after a while, she realizes that they are true friends. To her former circle of friends she probably didn’t have the same bond, so she broke off the contact.
