The Big Bang Theory: salary and fees of the actors
Everyone can guess that the series “The Big Bang Theory” is a box office hit. The television series is broadcast frequently, in Germany on ProSieben, in Austria on ORF eins and in Switzerland on 3+. It is now broadcast on TV in more than 50 countries. This makes The Big Bang Theory the most successful comedy series among viewers aged 18 to 49. Of course, success also costs money – namely salaries.

In March 2014 the TV series was extended by 3 more seasons, so it will be on TV until 2019. The actors used the extension of the series The Big Bang Theory and negotiated enormous fees. The main characters, Sheldon, Leonard and Penny, earned $1 million per episode in seasons 8, 9 and 10, while in seasons 11 and 12, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg, along with Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuocogleich, also earned $1 million per episode of The Big Bang Theory in these seasons. There will probably not be a 13th season.

What do Sheldon, Leonard and Penny make in The Big Bang Theory?
Sheldon, Penny and Leonard

Dr. Dr. Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper (Jim Parsons), Dr. Leonard Leakey Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco – really hit the show. These three have the leading roles and an extremely high salary. They each earned 350,000 euros for an episode of Big Bang Theory. That was not enough for them. That’s why the actors have been demanding higher salaries from their producer Chuck Lorreein for the last three seasons. They demanded almost three times as much, namely 1 million US dollars (960,000 euros) per episode. The salary was also granted to them. Penny, Leonard and Sheldon knew that the series would not run without them. …so they could put pressure on them and get the raise.

Gage of Howard and Rajesh
The salaries of the Co Stars were very low in relation to the salary of Dr. Dr. Sheldon Cooper at the beginning. The engineer Howard Joel Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) collected 72.000€ per episode and Dr. Rajesh “Raj” Ramayan Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) earned 45.000€ for one episode. In the meantime, the two have become an integral part of the cult series and have risen to the top of the pay scale, earning a whopping $1 million per episode in seasons 11 and 12, just like the main actors.

The partners of Howard and Sheldon had the same salary: Dr. Bernadette Maryann Rostenkowski-Wolowitz (Melissa Rauch) and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) also received a fee of 45,000 Euros for a series episode of “The Big Bang Theory”. However, they also took advantage of the extension of the popular TV series and received the higher fees of 200,000 US dollars for seasons 8, 9 and 10. In seasons 11 and 12, however, the two ladies are not to receive any increase from their producers. Allegedly, however, the other actors show their solidarity and waive 100,000 US dollars each in favor of Amy and Bernadette. Both are thus to receive a salary of 450,000 US dollars per episode and improve their wages. However, the final contracts are still pending.

The different salaries and especially the high imbalance have already caused tensions between the actors. The actors besides the leading actors have therefore also demanded a pay rise. Amy and Bernadette then collected 100,000 euros per episode. In the meantime, however, they are likely to receive even more money. Just like Howard and Rajesh, they are not satisfied with the small salary at the beginning of the series. The production sum is now around 4.5 million euros per episode of The Big Bang Theory. Now one should sum up that the production company has already paid 4.5 million Euros for a series episode for the seven main actors. However, the supporting actors and the general production costs and expenses aren’t covered by this yet. In conclusion, you can say that “The Big Bang Theory” is an expensive shooting fun, which obviously pays off.
